What Is Reinforcement Learning?

Reinforcement learning is a machine-learning approach in which an agent learns to make decisions by interacting with an environment and receiving rewards or penalties. Over many trials it discovers strategies that maximize reward. It powered systems like AlphaGo and, through human feedback, helped make chatbots more helpful.
